Helping Ford take out top spot were the value packed versions of the XE, such as the "Falcon Eclipse", which featured a two tone paint scheme, styled sports wheels shod with ER78 steel belted radial ply tires, these being further dressed up with addition of a chrome ornament ring and attractive centre cap.

With eight years and five models released, GMH again took the scalpal to the Gemini, this time transforming the TF into the TG. However, picking a TF from the previous TG can prove difficult, as most improvements were simply by way of upgrades, such as standardising all models with the more up-market SL/X seats, and each model (except the base model) receiving the previous models higher spec wheel trims.

A new model ZZ/Z sedan was introduced, a real show pony that featured go-fast additions such as alloy wheels and mandatory decals. Amoung the changes included with the release of the VH was a revised grille with new front guards, the tail lights were given louvres similar in style to the Mercedes Benz tail lights of the day (designed as such to prevent dirt buildup and ensure clarity). And to add a little differentiation from the lesser models, the SL/E's tail lights stretched right up to the number plate recess. It is worth noting that the new front guards were designed in Australia, some thought as a deliberate move away from the German Opel shape.

The first Perrenti Sports was displayed at the 1983 Sydney International Motor Show, where it naturally drew immediate comparisons with the Corvette Stingray. In the flesh, however, the Perrenti Sports was slightly longer than the Corvette, one benefit being that it offered true two-plus-two interior accomodation and a boot that was actually capable of holding some luggage.
