Minor revisons to the front and rear styling marked the
ZB. The tail lamp treatment was altered, retaining the
large square Galaxie style lamp divided into 2 parts by
a rectangular indicator lens, replacing the central circular
Options for the Custom included the 302ci V8, automatic transmission, power disc brakes, power steering, vinyl roof, tinted laminated windscreen, radio, clock and better wheel trims and tires.
The Fairlane 500 of course came standard with many of these features, the only options being a vinyl roof, radial and whitewall tires, a radio and tinted/laminated windscreen.
Both models featured a two-speed header/demister and there was a "Selectair" fresh air ventilation system, however suprisingly there was no option for air-conditioning.
Inside the 500 was now standard with individual front buckets, while the Custom retained the bench seat. As the engine revisions had taken place with the Falcon models, these found their way to the ZB Fairlane models. The 200ci six was replaced by the 221ci, and the 289ci V8 by the 302ci Windsor.
Ford were very proud of their prestige car, and well should have been. By using many parts from the Falcon parts bin, they had created a luxury car for almost half the cost of their nearest competitors.
Ford would proclaim the Fairlane as the car "most people move up to than any other car". They were right, because the price was so right.
The ZB was manufactured between March 1968 and July 1969.
