In 1960 The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Zagato was the
lightest, smallest, best streamlined, most powerful and
therefore the fastest of the entire Alfa Romeo range of
cars.
The 1290cc aluminum twin-cam engine was capable
of producing speeds of 121.8 mph.
The handmade Zagato bodies were extremely lightweight
and aerodynamic. The SZs had a long and successful racing
life of almost eight years, which is very long for one
model.
The SZs dominated their racing class and won many events,
some of them major International rallies and races.
Today their strongest competition comes from Lotus Elites,
the same car they battled with in the 1960s.
They
are much sought after these days by vintage racers and collectors
around the world.
